Afrobeat singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed why he prefers to sing more in Yoruba during an Instagram interactive session with fans.
The artsiste explained that while he can sing in English, he feels more comfortable expressing himself in his mother tongue of Yoruba.
Asake emphasised that fans who don’t appreciate his music in Yoruba should stop listening altogether.
He said: “I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t”.
All three of Asake’s albums, including “Mr Money With The Vibes”, “Work of Art”, and “Lungu Boy”, feature predominantly Yoruba lyrics.
His hit song “Amapiano” was nominated for a Grammy Award, despite being sung mainly in Yoruba.
Asake also revealed that his Grammy-winning colleague, Wizkid is one of his music inspirations.
He disclosed this while relishing his collaboration with the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner in this newly-released third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy.’
On the side note of their collaborative song on the project, ‘MMS’, on digital streaming platforms, Asake revealed that he has been eager to collaborate with Wizkid.
He wrote: “It’s no secret that Wizkid is one of my music inspirations. As a young striving artiste in Lagos, I’ve been waiting for that right song so when the opportunity came it was a no brainer.
“‘MMS’ stands for ‘Mr Money Sound’ and it explains my music journey.”
