CORA to lead conversation on ‘Power of Story, at Lagos Comic Con 2026
The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) will participate in the Lagos Comic Con 2026 on Saturday, September 12, 2026, bringing its longstanding commitment to literature, arts and cultural conversations to one of Nigeria’s leading celebrations of comics, popular culture and creative expression. As part of its participation, CORA will lead a panel discussion titled “The Power of Story: From Book to Comic to Screen,” exploring the possibilities of storytelling across literary, visual and screen-based forms. The 2026 theme of the convention—Where Are The Superheroes?—will guide the conversation to examine how stories evolve as they move from the written page into comics, animation and screen productions, while considering the creative possibilities, challenges and opportunities involved in adapting stories for different audiences and platforms. The panel will also highlight the growing intersections between literature, visual storytelling, technology and the creative industries.Representing CORA at the session are Mercy Timilehin Kelani, Tijani Usman, Olakunle Fadairo, Sandra Alabi and Victor Ayobami Adedapo, bringing diverse experiences across literature, visual arts, animation, media, technology, publishing and creative production. Tijani Usman (TijayWebster) — PanelistTijani is a Nigerian multidisciplinary creative -- animator, comic illustrator, poet and visual storyteller. His practice spans 3D animation, comics, digital illustration, motion graphics and performance, blending African cultural influences with contemporary visual storytelling and technology. He has worked with organisations and brands including Search for Common Ground, Sankofa Pan African Series, Unchained Vibes Africa, CORA, Progressive Love Academy, Texas House District 65, Urbanized Music Chicago, Zuri 24 Media and Providus Bank, among others. His work explores culture, identity, society and the human experience, with a particular passion for using comics and animation to create compelling African stories, characters and worlds. Olakunle Fadairo — PanelistWriter, educator, researcher, media professional and creative strategist, Olakunle holds a B.A. in English Language from the University of Lagos. His work spans media and the creative industry, where he has worked as a news anchor, social media strategist, librarian and project director. Olakunle has contributed to literary and cultural development through organisations and platforms including CORA, LABAF and the CORA Youth Creative Club. A passionate poet, novelist, researcher and cultural advocate, he is committed to using education, storytelling and media to empower young people and amplify African creativity. Sandra Alabi — PanelistA Technical Product Manager and community builder with over three years of experience in digital product development, Sandra is passionate about AI, technology and the future of work. She is also a member of CORA’s media team, where she contributes to promoting arts, culture and creative conversations. Victor Ayobami Adedapo — PanelistA goal-oriented creative professional and a graduate of English from the University of Lagos., Victor has a strong passion for literature, art and communication, with experience across publishing, printing, teaching and creative production. *Badejo My personal letter to the LASU new V.C.By Dr. Rebecca Uduakobong Adesiyan Dear Professor Badejo,Congratulations on this much-deserved appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of LASU. Please permit me to reintroduce myself. I am Dr. Rebecca Uduakobong Adesiyan (Uduak); I used to work at the LASU Staff Canteen (1999-2000). In 2005, I had the privilege of working with you at the LASU Ikoyi Campus as your secretary, while holding an Ordinary National Diploma in Secretarial Administration. I am writing today to express my sincere appreciation and to thank you for the exceptional kindness you showed me during that period. Your warmth, guidance, and motherly support left an indelible mark on my life and career, and I have carried those memories with me over the years. I can still remember how you would insist that I have breakfast at your home before we left for work in Ikoyi. At the time, I used to come to your home in Oko-Oba, Agege, every morning. You had just had your baby then, yet you still found the time and heart to look after me. Even at work, you would go out of your way to make sure I was comfortable, sometimes buying me food from the Chicken Republic close to the office. Not long after I assumed duty at the Ikoyi Campus, you were transferred back to the Main Campus. In your kindness, you approached the late Professor Mobolaji Lateef Adetona on my behalf, asking that I be retained because I had only just resumed at Ikoyi. He graciously did so. May his soul continue to rest in peace. I have never forgotten that gesture. I am therefore not surprised at all to learn that you are now the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University. You have worked, served, and sacrificed your time over the years, and I believe this position is a fitting recognition of your capacity, integrity, dedication, and labour of love. I am truly delighted to see how far you have come, and I thank God for continuing to honour and exalt you. I am currently a Lecturer II at Landmark University, Omu - Aran, Kwara State, a sister university to Covenant University, where I worked as an administrator for 19 years before resigning after completing my PhD in English Literature at Olabisi Onabanjo University, to pursue a career in academia. As I reflect on my journey, I realise that some of the lessons I learned from people like you have remained with me, shaped me, and continue to influence how I relate to others and approach my work. Thank you, Professor, for the kindness, care, and encouragement you showed me many years ago. Those seemingly simple gestures meant so much to me, and I remain deeply grateful. May God continue to bless you, strengthen you, and grant you greater grace, wisdom, and good health as you lead Lagos State University. May He continue to reward your years of service and dedication.
