All UEFA trophies won and history rewritten: 2 Champions Leagues, 2 Europa Leagues, 2 Cup Winners’ Cups, 2 UEFA Super Cups, and 1 Conference League. No one like Chelsea.
This is an incredible impact by Enzo Maresca: in his first season at the helm of Chelsea, the Italian coach manages to give the Blues a trophy that had been missing since the 21/22 season and “completes” the game of football.
Chelsea won the Conference League title with 4-1 victory over Real Betis in final of Europe’s third-tier competition. And they did this with some panache!
It was a dismal first–half performance from Enzo Maresca’s side, as Abde Ezzalzouli’s goal but Betis front.
But after a rapid turnaround in the second half, inspired by Cole Palmer, the momentum was switched.
The Blues came from behind to beat Real Betis 4-1 to become the first team to win every major European trophy.
However, goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo got the job done in Poland.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has given his honest thoughts on his side coming out on top in the Conference League final.
“I am very happy,” he said. “I was a little bit frustrated in the first half because I think we approached the game in the wrong way.
“Also I expected it a little bit – the happiness was a bit too much after Nottingham Forest because you go all season waiting and waiting [to achieve a Champions League place].
“So we struggled a bit first half, second half we were much better and now we are very happy.”
He added: “The message after Nottingham Forest was, ‘Guys if we want to be an important team then what we have done is done and we have to win the final.’
“But it’s the happiness, the tiredness because we had 48 hours less than them, they played on Friday for nothing, we played on Sunday for a big, big target. So I expected it a little bit.
“In the second half we played much better.”
