Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Leadership Empowerment International Conference (LEIC) Nigeria 2026, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on August 14 and 15.
The two-day international conference is being organised by the Perspectives Leadership Development Institute in collaboration with the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute.
The conference, themed “The Gravity of Leadership Failure & Correction Methodologies,” will take place at the Kayode Egbetokun Hall, Police Cooperative Event Centre, along Babangida Boulevard, opposite the Bureau of Lands and Housing, near the Kuto overhead bridge.
Proceedings are scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.
According to a statement signed by the Media Consultant and Communication of the Institute, Rafiu Abọlọrẹ Alarape, the conference will bring together political leaders, academics, business executives, professionals, traditional stakeholders and other critical actors to examine the causes of leadership failure and explore practical approaches to building effective, accountable and responsible leadership.
Among the prominent personalities expected at the event are Obasanjo; the Odole of Oodua, Chief Kessington Adebukola Adebutu; the Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu; Dr. Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo, Iyasunnah of Egbaland and first Ameerah of Ogun State Muslims; Senator Iyabo Olushola Obasanjo; and Yeye Adenike Adebutu.
Other expected participants include the Chief Executive Officer of Vision Savers, Abuja, Dr. Kamal Umar, who is expected to attend with four members of his team; Dr. Segun Odegbami, who wrote the foreword to the institute’s new book; Engr. Dr. Oluwatoyin Jokosenumi; Prof. Adedeji Daramola; and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, among others.
A major highlight of the conference will be the presentation of a Doctoral Award to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, in recognition of his contributions and achievements.
The organisers said the participation of the distinguished personalities would enrich discussions around leadership, governance, institutional development and the need for effective mechanisms to address leadership failures.
They added that the international character of the conference would be reflected in the participation and representation of delegates from Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cameroon, the United Kingdom and Kenya.
According to the organisers, the participation of delegates from different countries would facilitate cross-border exchange of ideas and experiences on leadership, governance and institutional development.
The conference is also expected to promote accountability, competence, integrity and service-oriented leadership among emerging and established leaders as essential ingredients for sustainable development.
The Perspectives Leadership Development Institute urged government officials, political leaders, academics, professionals, youth leaders, civil society organisations and members of the public interested in leadership development to participate in the conference.
