The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has conferred its highest professional honour — the Fellowship of the advertising profession — on 45 distinguished practitioners in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development, regulation, and advancement of marketing communications in Nigeria.
The conferment ceremony, held in Lagos, brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and seasoned professionals to celebrate excellence and integrity in advertising practice.
Speaking at the event, ARCON’s Director-General, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, said the Fellowship represents the pinnacle of professional achievement in the industry and is reserved for practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, ethics, and innovation.
“The Fellowship is the highest status of membership within ARCON, conferred on individuals who have not only met the criteria for full membership but have also contributed significantly to the growth of the profession,” Fadolapo stated.
He recalled that advertising became a formally regulated profession in Nigeria after the Advertising Practitioners Registration Act of 1988, which was repealed and replaced by the ARCON Act of 2022. The Act, he explained, sets the framework for professional recognition and advancement within the council.
Fadolapo outlined the eligibility criteria for Fellowship, including a minimum of 15 years of active practice, proven leadership in managing impactful campaigns, contribution to the ARCON Governing Council or sectoral associations, and evidence of mentorship, research, or industry endowments.
