Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerians to trust the democratic process in the country.
Abiodun gave the charge during the Democracy Day Celebration prayers at the family home of the winner of the June 12 1993 presidential elections late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola in Gbagura area of Abeokuta.
Abiodun, who was represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said that it was a thing of immense pleasure that Nigerians are celebrating 25 years of unbroken democracy in this country on a foundation laid by the late Abiola, and commended Nigerian Government for setting aside the day not just to honour his memory but also to celebrate democratic rule in Nigeria.
He vowed that his administration would continue to honour the legacy of the Late Abiola, particularly as he was a prominent son of the state as well as not relenting in delivering the dividends of democracy to the good people of Ogun State.
While thanking the Federal Government for putting in place people centered policies with ultimate aim of achieving a better Nigeria, Abiodun called on everyone to continue to support government and its organs stating only then will it succeed in taking the country to the projected heights.
Speaking on behalf of the late Abiola’s families, Mr Ameen Abiola, thanked those who visit the family every year to remember the late Abiola, especially the state government for its unflinching support and the recent renovation of the family house while also thanking the Federal Government for declaring June 12 as democracy and to also honour the late Abiola, saying the gesture goes a long way in protecting the legacies left behind.
