An aircraft belonging to Dana Airline, skidded off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on its way from the federal capital territory, Abuja.
The aircraft with registration number 5N BKI was having 83 passengers onboard at the time of the incident.
According to reports, the ill-fated aircraft has been grounded by the management of Dana Airline even as the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), says it has been notified of the incident.
The NSIB agency said it has deployed investigators to the site.
A statement by the spokesman of Dana, Mr Kingsley Ezenwa confirmed the incident.
It was gathered that the incident was triggered by the wet surface of the runway, occasioned by rainfall
It has been raining since early morning Tuesday in many parts of the south west states and Lagos was not an exception.
Nigerian Current gathered that at the time of the incident, rain has not subsided at the Lagos airport.
However, the airline said it regretted the incident and expressed that all the 83 passengers and crewmembers onboard the aircraft were safe with no injury sustained.
Ezenwa who spoke for the airline, commended the crew for displaying exemplary professionalism in handling the situation.
His statement hinted that the NSIB and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), have been duly notified of the occurrence.
“We have also updated the NSIB and the NCAA on the incident and the aircraft involved has been grounded by our maintenance team for further investigation.
“We wish to thank the airport authorities, our crew, for their very swift response in ensuring the safe disembarking of all passengers, following the incident and our sincere apologies and appreciation to the passengers on the affected flight [GA1] for their patience and understanding.”
The statement assured passengers of Dana’s commitment to safety, noting that the airline was cooperating with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances that warranted the incident.
Bimbo Oladimeji who is Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NSIB, confirmed the incident.
