Former president of the Guild of Online Publishers and founder of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has died at the age of 56.
Oladipo reportedly took ill suddenly in his office in Lagos on Tuesday and died hours later at a hospital in Lagos.
His death was confirmed by GOCOP and the management of Eagle Online.
GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu announced the news to guild members late Tuesday evening.
The Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS), where Oladipo served as founding president, also expressed grief over his death.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, IMPCMS General Secretary Nkanu Egbe described his passing as a devastating loss to both the cooperative and Nigerian journalism.
With a career spanning nearly three decades, Oladipo previously worked as politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers and held senior editorial roles at the Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass, and The Sun before founding The Eagle Online.
