Gunmen in the Zak community of Plateau State have kidnapped 28 travelers who were on their way to an Islamic Maulud event in the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Sunday when the attackers stopped the vehicle conveying the travelers near the village and abducted all the occupants, including women and children, abandoning their vehicle. Two children of traditional rulers and the religious leader leading the group were reportedly among those kidnapped.
The abandoned vehicle, belonging to the village head of Zak, was found on Monday morning. Youth leader Sapi’i Sambo confirmed the kidnapping and the community’s unsuccessful search efforts, adding that security agencies had been notified. Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alabo Alfred, stated that the police are aware of the incident and have initiated an investigation.
