Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has commissioned 13 newly-reconstructed roads in Aba as part of his administration’s urban renewal and infrastructure development programme.
The roads, covering 5.34 kilometres and ranging from 7.3 to 15 metres in width, were executed under the direct labour initiative of the State Ministry of Works.
The roads include Umuode Road, Bakassi Road, Isu Ihiteukwa Street, Asa Road, Enyimba Junction–Ariaria Gate Road, Market Road, Tenant Road, Cameroun Road, Ehi Road, Clifford Road, School Road, and Afikpo Road—connecting key parts of the city to boost commerce and ease traffic.
Governor Otti, while speaking at the commissioning ceremony held at St. Joseph’s College, Aba, described infrastructure as vital to economic growth, saying the chain of interconnected roads reflected his commitment to restoring Aba’s urban corridor.
He assured residents of continued efforts to modernize the city.
The Governor commended the people for their patience during years of infrastructural decay and urged them to take ownership of public facilities by safeguarding them and paying taxes to support government projects.
Also, the Governor pledged immediate intervention to address the water supply challenges at St. Joseph’s College and promised further support to public schools to enhance the quality of education across the state.
Stakeholders, including the Director-General of GADA, Uche Ukeje; a trader representative, Ernest Onwuka; and Aba South LGA Chairman, Obialor Anyanwu, applauded the Governor.
They said the road projects have extended Aba’s business hours from six to sixteen, with the potential for a 24-hour economy.
