It was naira rain of sorts for six students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, yesterday, as the Convocation Lecturer, Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, doled out Five Hundred Thousand (N500,000:00) to each of them for coming out top of their classes.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, First Nigerian Professor in the field of Development and Industrial Policy, was lecturer at the 17th Convocation Ceremonies and 35th anniversary of the establishment of the University that is owned by the Oyo State Government.
He spoke on the topic “Can Nigeria Thrive in Times of Tumultuous and Rapid Technological Changes.”
The six students included the overall best graduating of the University in the 2023/2024 academic session, Adeduntan Badirat who had a CGPA of 4.86 in Science Laboratory Technology.
The rest are engineering graduands, including: Komolafe Teslim Gbolahan with CGPA of 4.77 in the department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering; AbdulRasheed Wasiu, also with CGPA of 4.72 in Chemical Engineering and Oladipo Johnson Omoniyi with CGPA of 4.71in Civil Engineering.
Others are Oyelade Oluwaseun Oluwafikunmi of Computer Engineering with CGPA of 4.67, as well as Eniade Miracle Stephen with CGPA 4.62 in Mechanical Engineering.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, who paid into the students’ individual Bank accounts, called on the Federal Government to prioritize development of technological strength of Nigerians.
He is presently Senior Special Adviser on Industrialization to the President of the African Development Bank.
