With the 2026 Osun governorship election underway, a chieftain of Accord Party in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State has been arrested by the police.
The man, said to be the Accord Party state House of Assembly member from the area, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday alongside some other Accord operatives with thousands of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) reportedly collected by force from voters in Ikire.
A source said the arrest might have disrupted Accord Party strategy on how to dilute votes in certain localities believed to be stronghold of the opposition.
Ikire, which is the hometown of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji is said to be high priority.
Those arrested are said to have been taken to the police station in Ikire for questioning. As at the time of filling this report, the police have yet to address the media.
A source said the arrested chieftain, Mr Abiola Ibrahim, the member of the Osun State House Assembly from Ìkire, had camped in his father’s house about 147 prospective voters who are said not to be from Ikirè but outside Osun State.
He already got all these people registered and collected their PVCs ahead of the elecrion.
Just last week there was an allegation from the APC that thousands of strange faces, obviously from outside Osun, were camped in the Adeleke University for the same purpose.
The Secretary to the Osun State Government was also briefly arrested after he was caught with thousands of PVCs recently.
