The Kwara State Government has announced the release of 176 residents of Woro community abducted during a February 3, 2026 attack.
The release brings an end to months of uncertainty for the victims and their families.
The government announced the development in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies and all those who contributed to securing the victims’ freedom.
“Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” the statement read.
The victims, comprising mostly women and children, were kidnapped when armed assailants attacked Woro community in Kaiama local government area of the state.
While the state government confirmed that all 176 victims have regained their freedom, it did not disclose details of the operation that led to their release or indicate whether any ransom was paid.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement providing further information on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
The successful release of the abductees marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to address one of the state’s most high-profile mass abduction cases this year.
