The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has affirmed the choice of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as running mate to presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 election.
The announcement came Monday, ending weeks of speculation over the VP slot.
Amaechi contested the ADC presidential primary alongside Atiku and Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The electoral committee declared Atiku winner with 1,846,370 votes. Amaechi came second with 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 177,120 votes.
Both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen protested the process before votes were counted, with the former declaring in TV interviews that he was not in the race to be anyone’s running mate.
In the announcement, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the decision followed “extensive consultations” with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.
