The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today announced the assumption of duty of Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State.
According to a press statement issued from the commission’s state headquarters in Akure on Monday, April 20, 2026, Agboke officially took over the reins of the commission in the state today following his redeployment from Osun State where he previously served as REC.
The statement, signed by the Administrative Secretary, Tadése Adenike, described Agboke, a native of Abeokuta, as a seasoned legal scholar and an expert in election management.
A member of the Nigerian Bar since 2006, his career in electoral administration spans over a decade.
His previous roles include: Member: Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) between 2012 and 2016.
Resident Electoral Commissioner: Served in similar capacities in Ondo, Oyo, and Osun states.
He notably supervised the 2019 and 2023 General Elections.
The Commission expressed high hopes for Agboke’s tenure, citing his reputation for “integrity, transparency, and professionalism” as key assets for the upcoming tasks in the state.
“The Commission expresses confidence in his ability to strengthen electoral integrity and deliver credible, free, and fair elections in Ondo State,” the statement reads.
