Following the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the consensus gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the suspension of her ambition to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Obasanjo, in a statement issued and personally signed by her and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, noted that she will abide by the decision of the party.
She also expressed appreciation to both state and national leaders of the APC for the opportunity to participate in the party’s internal process leading up to the selection.
Addressing her supporters across the state, she conveyed her gratitude for their loyalty and calm disposition throughout her campaign.
She said, “I congratulate him and wish him every success. Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.
“To my supporters, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope”.
Her decision came shortly after Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, unveiled Adeola as the APC consensus candidate.
