A swift response by the Ogun State Police Command thwarted an early morning robbery attempt in the Sagamu area, leading to the recovery of the suspects’ operational vehicle and harmful items.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when operatives from the Sakura Division received a distress call at approximately 1:45 AM. The alert, routed through the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, reported that five armed hoodlums were attempting to force their way into a residence off the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.
Upon the arrival of the police patrol team, the would-be robbers abandoned their plan and fled in different directions. A hot chase ensued, forcing the suspects to escape on foot, leaving behind their black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT.
A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of fireworks, also known as “knockouts,” which police suspect were intended to disorient and distract residents during the criminal operation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Ph.D., praised the officers for their timely and professional intervention. He reiterated that the Command has strengthened its operational strategies, deploying personnel to identified flashpoints across the state as part of end-of-year security measures.
CP Ogunlowo assured residents of sustained police visibility and urged the public to remain security-conscious, especially when returning home late at night. He advised that illuminating dark or isolated areas can help deter criminals who exploit such environments.
