L-R: Former chairman Azeez and his successor Obasa
Barely three months after he was elected, the Chairman of Agege Local Government, Tunde Azeez, popularly called Tunde Disco, has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Local Government.
His resignation paved way for Vinod Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and APC political leader in Agege, Obasa to assume office as Chairman of the council.
The Legislative Arm of the local government announced Azeez’s resignation on Wednesday, 5 November, 2025 after reading a letter he sent, intimating the councilors of his ill health.
Before his resignation, Azeez had sought and received the approval of the lawmakers to proceed on a medical leave, which paved the way for his deputy, Abdul Ganiy Vinod Obasa to act on his behalf.
Azeez has now officially confirmed that he cannot continue as the Chairman of the local government due to his failing health.
The Legislative Arm unanimously passed a resolution accepting the resignation letter.
Following the acceptance of the resignation, the House announced its unanimous approval of AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
“This decision underscores the council’s dedication to seamless governance and leadership continuity,” the councilors said.
The lawmakers thereafter acknowledged what they said was Azeez’s dedication to public service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
