Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, has accused the police of barricading a venue for his planned official declaration to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The event was scheduled to take place on Saturday at a field in the Alimosho local government area.
According to Rhodes-Vivour, his team had duly notified the police about the rally but arrived to find the location occupied by a significant police presence. He stated that efforts to resolve the issue with the State Commissioner of Police were unsuccessful.
He alleges the action is a politically motivated attempt to stifle opposition.
“We found the location barricaded by a heavy police presence this morning,” Rhodes-Vivour said. “This move is politically motivated to stop the opposition event, but I insist it will proceed.”
The incident follows recent speculation about Rhodes-Vivour’s political future after he was seen in a meeting with the ADC’s National Secretary.
