The Federal Government has filed a lawsuit against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central over alleged defamatory remarks made on live television
Akpoti-Uduaghan is the only defendant in the lawsuit that was submitted to the Federal Capital Territory High Court on May 16, 2025.
Citing Section 391 of the penal code, CAP 89, laws of the federation, 1990, the government charged the senator with “making imputation knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.” Section 392 of the same statute imposes penalties for the offense.
The list of witnesses indicates that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, will testify during the trial.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, was alleged to have accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to assassinate her.
Federal Government accused Senator of having, in the TV interview, made an imputation concerning Senator Akpabio, saying that, “It was part of the meeting, the discussions that Akpabio had with Yahaya Bello that night to eliminate me.
