The Ogun State chapter of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has urged the Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene in the crisis rocking the state’s Articulate Motorcycle Owners And Riders Association of Ogun State (AMORAN) .
It would be recalled that the former Chairman, Chief Otunba Nurudeen Aina, alias Alowonle, recently dragged the incumbent, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, alias Danku, to the National Industrial Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State over the leadership of the association.
Alowonle, in his suit, said he was duly elected, served first term and got the overwhelming votes to serve for the second term, but that Sokoya, personal Assistant to him, double crossed him and made himself a substantive Chairman.
Addressing a press conference in Abeokuta on Tieaday, the Chairman of the CUPP, Otunba Femi Soluade, said the state government must urgently nip in the bud the issue which, he said, can throw the state into unnecessary chaos and bloodletting.
The CUPP Chairman also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other well meaning Ogun Residents to look into the crisis that is brewing within AMORAN.
He said, “One may be wondering what is the concern of CUPP with Union matters, but let’s make it clear that anything that may jeopardize the peace of Ogun State, and which may eventually send away investors should be a serious concern of every well meaning individuals, no matter the political affiliations one finds oneself.
“Of recent, the Articulate Motorcycle Owners And Riders Association of Ogun State (AMORAN) is enmeshed in an avoidable leadership crisis following allegations of ‘resignation’, and signature forgery between Otunba Taofeek Shokoya Danku, who the Chairman Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle alleged forged his Signature on a resignation letter.
“While we are not particularly concerned with the internal issues of any Association or Union, Our concern is the resultant effects of the imbroglio in the AMORAN over the Chairmanship tussle.
“We therefore call on the Ogun State government, the DSS, EFCC, Nigerian Police and other security agencies to look into the issue of forgery allegations and call those masterminds of this nefarious activity to order before they unleash mayhem capable of throwing the State into crisis.
“On our part, we are bringing this issue to the public to avoid showdown as we have on good authority that a faction is making efforts to recruit Clcultists and other undesirable elements to cause havoc and unleash mayhem on the State.
“We believe our governor in control of security apparatus is capable of curtailing the evil plans of these undesirable elements, but ‘a stitch in Time Saves Nine.’ Immediate action is required in this matter.
“CUPP solicits for government’s urgent intervention by calling these two to a roundtable meeting and sort out all leadership crisis bedeveling the association amicably in the interest and sustainability of peace we enjoy in Ogun State.
“Part of our objective is to bring to the public and authority anything that is detrimental and inimical to the stability and progress of the State, We say it without minding whose ox is gored”.
