Former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, are among prominent Nigerians listed as owing the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) millions in unpaid ground rent for lands allocated to them in Abuja.
This was revealed in a post on X on Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The list of debtors, according to Olayinka, also include a former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom
“The FCTA recently published a list of 9,532 land titleholders in the capital city who owe outstanding ground rent,” he said.
Olayinka said Babangida owes about ₦152 million, for a plot of land in Asokoro, while Tambuwal, the current senator representing Sokoto South, owes ₦18 million for a plot in Carraway Dallas. Ortom, the immediate past former governor of Benue State owes ₦950,000 for a plot in Bazango.
He said, “The FCTA has given all 9,532 defaulters a two-week ultimatum to settle their debts or face penalties, including possible revocation of their land titles.
“Those owing must act swiftly and pay what they owe,” Olayinka added in his post, emphasizing the government’s stance on recovering the arrears.
