Lawyer and social activist, Dele Farotimi has been granted bail by an Ekiti State Magistrate Court in a criminal defamation case brought against him by legal luminary Afe Babalola SAN.
The bail ruling was announced on Monday and shared by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Sowore, the court set Farotimi’s bail at N50 million with a surety required to provide a landed property as collateral.
“Farotimi was granted N50m bail and a surety in like sum with landed property as collateral. The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025,” Sowore revealed.
The defamation case, which has garnered significant attention, is centered on statements made by Farotimi against Afe Babalola in his book.
The case is now scheduled to continue early next year as both parties prepare for further proceedings.
