The Ilobu-Asake Development Union has announced the cancellation of this year’s Ilobu Day Celebration in memory of the recently deceased Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja who is a native of Ilobu.
Shortly after the announcement of the passing of Lagbaja by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the IDU suspended all activities leading to the celebration that was billed to climax on November 9, 2024.
The statement announcing the cancellation of the annual event was signed by the National President of IDU, Pastor Olufemi Salako.
”The shock of an untimely loss of such an illustrious son is not what a community recovers from quickly, and the IDU after wide and informed consultations with stakeholders, has decided to cancel the celebration totally in honour of the late COAS who was laid to rest on Friday 15th, the statement said. .
“While thanking the Federal government for honoring him with a befitting state burial, we again reiterate the calls to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Army and the Osun State government to ensure iconic projects in honour of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja is sited in his community of Ilobu, as an enduring legacy, of a life of service to the nation.
“We also thank everyone that has reached out to our father, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Asiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the IDU and family of late Lt Gen. Lagbaja during this difficult period. We appreciate you all.
“It is on this note what we call on Ilobu sons and daughters, invited guests and well-wishers desiring to support the IDU 2025 projects to reach out to the National Treasurer on 0803 812 2902 or visit Ilobu House during the forthcoming Special NEC meeting scheduled for November 30, 2024. All branches are expected to be represented at the meeting.
