The governor Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has approved the immediate suspension of Auwalu Dalladi Sankara as commissioner of Special Duties and member of the State Executive Council pending an investigation into allegations made by the Kano State Hisbah.
The commissioner was arrested by Hisbah operatives with a married woman in an uncompleted building in Kano.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Bala Ibrahim, said the decision comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the state administration.
The SSG emphasized the commitment to accountability and adherence to ethical standards in governance by the governor.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation,” said the Secretary to the State Government.
“We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
The Kano State Hisbah command on Friday arrested Sankara for allegedly committing adultery with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu. The arrest followed a complaint by the woman’s husband, Nasir Bulama, who reported his suspicions to the authorities.
Sankara was caught in an uncompleted building belonging to him, where he had taken the woman. Upon seeing the Hisbah operatives and her husband, the woman attempted to flee, damaging her vehicle.
Sankara confessed to having an affair with the woman at least three times. Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, confirmed the arrest, stating that Sankara has been operating illicit drug centers disguised as hotels, promoting prostitution and drug addiction.
Sankara will face prosecution alongside the woman upon completion of the investigation. The case is set to begin on Monday at a competent Court of Laws.
Sankara’s arrest raises questions about the integrity of public officials and their involvement in illicit activities. The Hisbah command’s actions demonstrate their commitment to enforcing moral and religious laws in the state.
Sankara had denied the accusation. In a statement he issued at the weekend, the embattled official said:
“I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation. I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story, which has been concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity.
“As a married man, I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in actions that violate its sanctity. I remain committed to upholding the values and principles that I stand for.
“I am taking this matter seriously and will pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading this false information and attempting to cause harm to my person”.
