Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday presented staff and instruments of office to the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin 1.
Makinde, made the presentation around 2:45pm on Friday, during a ceremony at the frontage of Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The monarch, apparently coming from seclusion arrived at the venue about 20mins before 2pm and was welcomed by traditional drummers.
Olakulehin, who was brought in a black jeep waited in the car until the arrival of the governor before they both entered the grand stage.
Makinde was accompanied to the venue by his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun.
The presentation was later followed by a coronation ceremony, held at the Labosinde compound, the family whose right it is to crown any Olubadan.
Thee 89-year-old Olakulehin thus became the 43rd Olubadan and Paramount Ruler of the ancient capital city of Ibadan.
Those present at the ceremony included Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo state and member of the Olubadan-in-Council; Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife; Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto; and Teslim Folarin, a former Senate leader.
In March, Olalekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan, died at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. He was 81 years old.
