After recording a series of poor results in his short stay in office, Finidi George has resigned his appointment as coach of the Super Eagles.
The resignation of the former Ajax winger came in the wake of the decision by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to appoint a foreign coach to boss him after the national team failed to win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
The 53-year-old coach was appointed Super Eagles coach in May to succeed the Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who left the post after his contract ended in February.
Finidi was an assistant to Peseiro for 20 months.
His planned demotion would have meant his contract will be downgraded and his reported monthly salary of N15m will be reviewed downwards to N5m, some NFF sources say.
