The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the election.
Oyebamiji conceded defeat whike addressing APC members and supporters in Osogbo on Saturday on the outcome of the election and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He also called on Adeleke, as the state’s Chief Security Officer, to take immediate steps to halt what he said is ongoing killing, harassment and intimidation of APC members and supporters in the state.
The APC candidate thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support before, during and after the governorship election, while also commending former Governor of the state, Chief Bisi Akande, for his counsel and support.
He equally praised the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for what he described as his contributions towards repositioning the APC in the state.
Recalling his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate in December 2025, Oyebamiji said various tendencies within the APC subsequently set aside their differences and united behind a common objective of securing victory for the party.
He said the campaign took the party across the 30 local government areas of the state, engaging civil servants, retirees, artisans, students, youths, entrepreneurs, women, professionals, sporting groups, persons living with disabilities and religious organisations.
Oyebamiji, however, expressed concern over what he described as unwarranted violence before, during and, particularly, after the election.
He specifically recalled the deaths of former Irewole Local Government Chairman, Remi Abass; APC Chairman in Atakumosa Local Government, Chief Gbenga Ogbara; Dele Ayegbo, nephew of the Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Wole Oke; and more than 35 other alleged victims of political violence.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the killings and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.
Oyebamiji also sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives to political violence, assuring them that the party would not abandon them.
While congratulating Adeleke on his victory and joining the people of Osun in commemorating the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation, the APC candidate urged the governor to deploy his constitutional responsibilities to protect the lives and property of all residents, irrespective of political affiliation.
He condemned alleged attacks on APC members, supporters and businesses because of their perceived political affiliations, describing such actions as unacceptable in a state seeking to attract investment and create employment opportunities.
Oyebamiji said: “The senseless killings, harassment and intimidation of members and supporters of our party must therefore stop forthwith.”
On the post-election situation, the APC candidate said the party would continue to pursue justice and fairness through lawful and constitutional means, particularly with regard to the electoral process.
He urged APC members not to be discouraged by the outcome of the election but to remain committed to democratic principles and have confidence in the institutions established to protect their democratic rights.
Oyebamiji subsequently called on APC leaders, members and supporters across the state to commence preparations for the 2027 general elections, particularly the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He urged party members to close ranks, strengthen the party’s structures and work collectively towards securing victories for Tinubu and other APC candidates in Osun State.
The APC candidate commended party members for their resilience and commitment, assuring them that the party would continue to pursue its vision of a greater Osun where resources are equitably deployed, opportunities are accessible to all and governance serves the broader interests of the people.
