No fewer than three students collapsed and were rushed to the clinic early hours of Tuesday, as graduates struggle to secure seats inside the Buba Marwa Auditorium, venue of the Lagos State University’s 29th and 30th Convocation ceremony.
“Please help us call ambulance;” a friend to one of the students who fainted shouted at onlookers. “The ambulance has taken another student to the school clinic,” one of the onlookers replied him.
Besides fainting, some students also shattered the entrance glass to the hall as they overwhelmed the security team manning the entrance.
Our Correspondent, who is on ground covering the event, also assisted in onboarding one of the fainted students into the school motorbike for conveyance to the clinic.
LASU is holding a historic dual convocation for 20,000 graduating students of 2024 and 2025 and 2025 and 2026 academic sessions.
The convocation lecture is: “From LASU to the world: Harnessing the Nigetiam Disapora as the 7th Region for National Development.”
The large turnout of students, their parents, guests and well-wishers appeared to have stretched not only the school facility, but public roads and the hospitality businesses around the area.
Our correspondent gathered that hotels around and within Ojo Local government area, Iba Local Communitu development area and even Ikotun-Igando LCDA, were all fully booked as parents and well-wishers from across the country thronged the school for the auspicious occasion.
Our correspondent can also report that this convocation would be llthe last to be presided over by Profeesor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji Bello, as the school’s Vice Chancellor
Ibilola-Ibiyemi is serving out a one-term tenure of five years as the Vice Chancellor of the citadel of learning.
