The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has resumed operations on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service, AKTS, after weeks of intensive inspections, safety checks, and staff training.
Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, who joined passengers on the inaugural trip, reaffirmed his determination to position the NRC as a world-class, passenger-friendly service provider capable of driving socio-economic growth through modern, safe, and efficient rail transport.
According to him, “the first train departed Idu Station in Abuja, stopped at Kubwa to pick up passengers, and successfully arrived at Rigasa Station in Kaduna. A return trip was also conducted the same day, signaling the full restoration of services on the corridor.”
Dr. Opeifa expressed gratitude to God for the safe resumption and commended the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting its massive investment in rail infrastructure nationwide.
He emphasised that a modern railway system remains central to fostering national unity and development.
The NRC boss pledged to prioritise completion of ongoing projects, optimization of existing assets, rehabilitation of rolling stock, expansion of services, and improved customer experience, particularly along the AKTS corridor.
He disclosed that “a dedicated Customer Service Department has also been established to promptly address passenger concerns.”
On security, Dr. Opeifa assured passengers of the Corporation’s unwavering commitment, highlighting the visible presence of security operatives and the deployment of discreet but effective measures to safeguard operations.
