The Amalgamated All Progressives Congress Support Groups on Thursday rejected calls from some quarters for interim government over controversies that surrounded the 2023 general elections.
The groups, disclosed this after staging a solidarity walk in support of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Armed with placards with various pro-Tinubu inscriptions, such as “No to Military invasion in Politics”, “On Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s mandate we stand”, “We believe Judiciary to uphold Democracy”, “Go to Court, don’t cause War”,, “Igbega Ipinle Ogun continuity is our project”, amongst others, the groups took to major streets of the State capital, terminating their walk at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan.
The South West Chairman of the groups, Alhaji, Ganiyu Akeem Adesina while speaking to newsmen, insisted that they will not support any call for interim government.
He said the walk was necessitated to defend the Tinubu-Shettima’s mandate, saying that the election must be uphold.
According to him, “The reason we are here is to defend our mandate. The election in which President-elect, Bola Tinubu was emerged must uphold. Some people are calling for interim government and we supporters of Tinubu since 2019 are saying Tinubu must be sworn-in. These people are calling for the cancellation of election which is against the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
He added “We are here at the governor’s office to pass our message through the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to pass the message to President Muhammad Buhari that we in the South-West are saying no to interim government in Nigeria”.
Also speaking, the Ogun state Coordinator, Akinbode Olusola, maintained that due process as enshrined in the constitution for people’s seeking redress on the outcome of the election must be followed.
He said, “Before getting here, we have moved round the Town to send the message to indigens/resident of Ogun State that over over 276,000 voters that voted for Prince Dapo Abiodun are not fools.
We are saying again that over 8 Million voters that voted for Asiwaju Tinubu are not stupid. If anybody is angry should follow the due process and go to Court. No to interim government”.
To him, “We are passing a message of peace. We are telling people that we are civilized people. So if anybody is saying something to break us, we should not cause War. We don’t want intervention of the foreigners to invade our Nation. We are speaking for peace and one Nigeria”
