Osun Osogbo: Thousands troop to shrine for thanksgiving, worship, prayers

Tens of thousands of people from across the world are currently converged at the Shrine of the Osun Osogbo River Grove, Osun State in commemoration of the grand finale of the celebration of the Annual Festivity.

Adorned in colourful regalia and cultural embellishments, the congregants included Traditional Religionists, priests and devotees from over 14 countries, including Brazil, Cuba, America, Germany, Portugal, and the African continent.

They came to pay homage, offer thanksgiving and make fresh wishes before the Goddess of the River, whom they described as the embodiment of love, compassion and the source of their wellbeing and prosperity.

The event is being attended by all the Creme de la Creme in the Nigerian, African and the International Indigenous Cultural space.

There were extensive invocation of spirits and eulogies of the Goddess of the Rivers and all other principalities by traditional singers with solemn and sonorous voices that intermittently triggered adoration and uproar from the mammoth crowd converged at the Shrine of the Grove.

The song, Oreyeye Osun, by celebrated singer, Asabi Oye, was played repeatedly, capturing the mood and feel at the Grove.

Digniatories in attendance include the Governor of Osun State, Prince Gboyega Oyetola, represented by Prince Wole Oyebanji; Araba of Osogbo, Pa Ifayemi Elebuibon; and the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land, Chief Gani Adams; National Gallery, represented by the Curator, Mr Ekweme Obidike Ogoji;; Mrs Victoria Osagie of the National Commission for Museum and Monument, Abuja;Mama Shola Duro Ladipo; Mama ASA of Osun State and Mrs Shola Akinyeni, Director of Arts and Culture, among others.

Prince Adekunle Fatai, Curator and Site Manager, National Museum, Osogbo Chapter, was also in attendance.
