The old students of Egba Obafemi Community Grammar School (EOCGS) located in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State have elected new executives to run affairs of the school for the next four years.

The election of the executives, to be led by Prof Funso Sonde, was held at the school premises. The officers also include Gabriel Jolaoso as Deputy President, Moruf Oyeneye (General Secretary), Musibau Kareem (Treasurer) and Hafees Sowemimo (Financial Secretary).

Others include Omolaja Agbeleshe (Legal Adviser), Olusiji Oyesile (Public Relations Officer), Taiwo Gabriel (Assistant General Secretary), Suleman Isola (Social/Welfare Officer), Sakirudeen Tejuoso (Chief Whip) and Olufunke Shodipo -Adebajo (Vice President, Diaspora).

The new president subsequently sworn in members of the planning committee who are saddled with the task of planning for the school’s golden jubilee in 2027

The President called on all past students in their various fields of endeavors and professions to extend hands of generosity and facilitate supportive programmes that will assist the current students and the national alumni body of the school.

Sonde, while playing glowing tributes to past Presidents of the alumni body, Alhaji Musiliu Onifade and Alhaji Mutiu Dada for laying solid foundations for the current executive committee to follow, emphasized the need for the old students to rise to the occasion as the physical structures in the school does not support excellence in academic pursuits

“How can a student who offer science subjects pass when the building housing the laboratory has fallen down, this is not acceptable and a complete contrast to what I saw some 37 years ago when I had my teaching practice here as a student of Ogun State College of Education’, he said.

He reeled out his programmes for the next four years which include regular organization of programmes that would encourage the current students to work harder, improvements on the physical facilities available in the school most especially the various classroom blocks that are no more habitable.

The other programmes of action include, completion of all alumni projects especially those nearing completion, interacting meaningfully with Ogun State Ministry of Education towards facilitating more physical developments and posting of more quality teachers to the school, organization of welfare programmes that will improve learning for all current students in the school.

He assured that his administration will see to the creation of leadership of at least the first 20 sets of the school with a view to improving the list of financial members of the alumni body nationally and internationally.

The immediate past president, Alhaji Mutiu Dada urged all alumnus to cooperate and support the new leadership to be able to move the name of the school beyond what it is currently, stressing that government alone cannot provide all that a school required.

Dada, while expressing his appreciation for the support given his administration, 5.48.c.ccparticularly for the renovation of a seven-bedroom living quarters to ease the accommodation problem facing the school as well as provision of modern toilet facilities for the school, praised the Commissioner of Education and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu for renovating a block of classrooms through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday said the 140 million gallons per day Adiyan Water Projects will be ready next year in line with his administration’s commitment to provide clean and reliable potable water to Lagos residents.

He said the Adiyan Waterworks One and Two Projects, with a capacity for 70 million gallons each per day when completed, will change everything about water production and usage in Lagos State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu spoke on Friday during a site inspection of the Adiyan Waterworks One and Two Projects and the Water Treatment Plant project in the Iju, Adiyan and Akute areas of Ogun State. The visits, according to the Governor, were aimed at ensuring accountability, improving coordination with contractors and keeping major infrastructure projects on schedule.

The Governor commended the level of work on the projects by the contractor, saying that over eight kilometres of pipes had been laid after the Lagos State Government got the rights of way from the Ogun State Government and that compensations had been paid on all the affected property.

He said the brown water in the Ogun River would be turned to blue and get to the water treatment plants before going to various houses in Lagos for consumption, stating that the Adiyan Water Works Two and rehabilitation of Adiyan Water Works One are expected to be completed before the end of next year.

Earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu commissioned the rehabilitated Akilo one million gallons per day water facility in the Ogba area of Lagos. The project was in fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to partner stakeholders in promoting the health and wellbeing of the people as well as supplying water to residents.

The one million gallons per day, four thousand and five hundred cubic metres, Akilo Mini Waterworks was facilitated by WaterAid Nigeria, under the Urban Water and Sanitation Access Project, UWASAP, and implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC).

Speaking during the official commissioning of the project at Akilo Road, Ogba, in Ikeja, Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration is working to ensure every neighbourhood gets adequate supply of water built on a model of sustainability and investment in tandem with the Lagos State Government agenda.

He said the intervention aligns with his administration’s commitment to restoring dignity, improving public health and strengthening water governance under the THEMES+ agenda.

The Governor urged residents to take ownership and protect the newly commissioned infrastructure by avoiding damaging water pipes and stopping the habit of bypassing meters, which undermines sustainability.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, commended WaterAid Nigeria for the intervention which would provide public water for over 100,000 residents within Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye and other areas through household connections and digitally operated kiosks in strategic locations.

He described the project as a major milestone in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to improving water governance and raising the living standards of Lagos residents.

Wahab highlighted new upgrades, including a modern control panel room, a clean water tank, overhead tanks, automated motor kiosks and integrated water meters designed to strengthen transparency and ensure efficient water management.

He urged the host community to protect and maintain the facility, noting that the project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal Six, which seeks to guarantee universal access to clean water and sanitation.

Also speaking, the Country Director of WaterAid in Nigeria, Evelyn Mere, said the UWASAP project would increase access to water, sanitation and hygiene services in Lagos State for sustainable, resilient and affordable WASH services for users, as the organisation plans to replicate the model in other areas.

Mere disclosed that the Akilo project was designed as a replicable model, confirming that WaterAid is already set to rehabilitate the Ojokoro Waterworks to extend safe water access to another 100,000 residents.

She praised the Lagos State Government’s push for blended financing and innovation. She also requested further engagement with Governor Sanwo-Olu to deepen WASH sector reforms.

In his address, the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, said the rehabilitated Akilo waterworks, which was built in 2012 and had been moribund before WaterAid Nigeria’s intervention, would be providing water to people in Akilo and Agege, as well as adjoining communities.

Also speaking, the Ologba of Ogba, Oba Egbeyemi Oladimeji, said the project represents renewed hope and a major step toward addressing long-standing water scarcity in the area.

He praised the Lagos State Government and implementing partners for their commitment and called on the community to ensure the facility’s protection and longevity.

The monarch added that thousands of households and businesses would now receive much-needed relief, saying development thrives when government and citizens work together.

Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from. 2021–2023 has joined other Egba leaders to mourn the death of the family head of the Amosun clan, Alhaji Mufasiu Alabi Amosun,

Isola, in a statement issued today said Amosun, who died died today in Abeokuta aged 78, was a quiet but steady pillar of the Amosun clan.

The statement reads:

With a deeply saddened heart, I join countless sons and daughters of Ogun State, Egbaland, Owu Kingdom, and particularly the distinguished Amosun family, in mourning the painful demise of Alhaji Mufasiu Alabi Amosun, who returned to his Lord today at the ripe age of 78.

The passing of Alhaji Mufasiu Alabi Amosun—the revered head of the Amosun family—is a monumental loss, not only to his family but to our dear state and the wider community of people who benefited from his wisdom, leadership, humility, and fear of Allah.

Alhaji Mufasiu Alabi Amosun was a quiet but steady pillar; a custodian of family values; an emblem of dignity and discipline; and a man whose life radiated simplicity, patience, and God-consciousness. His departure leaves a painful vacuum, yet his legacy will live in the memories of all who encountered his gentle strength and impeccable character.

As the Glorious Qur’an reminds us: “Kullu nafsin dhā’iqatul-mawt, wa innamā tuwaffawna ujoorakum yawmal-qiyāmah…”
“Every soul shall taste death, and you will only be given your full reward on the Day of Resurrection…” — Qur’an 3:185

May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, illuminate his grave with mercy, expand it with light, and admit him among His righteous servants in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

I hereby commiserates with my brother, Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA and the entire Amosun family on this demise and pray Almighty Allah grant who mourns him the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

I stand with the family in this solemn hour of grief, praying that Allah envelop them with comfort and peace.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally dissociated itself from Fuji music legend and Olori Omooba of Ijebu, Wasiu Ayinde Omogbolahan, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, declaring that he is not a member of the royal lineage and therefore not eligible to contest for the Awujale stool.

The clarification, issued on Thursday, comes in the wake of growing controversy over the musician’s bid to succeed the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died on July 13, 2025, after a 65-year reign.

K1 had earlier submitted a letter to the head of the Fusengbuwa family, signalling his intention to vie for the throne and asserting that he belonged to the Jadiara unit of the ruling house.

However, evidence has since emerged contradicting his claim. A letter signed by the late Oba Adetona at the time he conferred the title of Olori Omooba on the artiste reportedly identified him as a member of the Fidipote Ruling House, not Fusengbuwa.

The development has stirred debate across Ijebuland, with many questioning whether a prince from Fidipote could aspire to a royal stool reserved exclusively for Fusengbuwa descendants.

Amid the growing dispute, the Jadiara unit submitted a petition to the Fusengbuwa chairman and the Ogun State Government, asserting unequivocally that K1 does not belong to their lineage.

According to Ogidan, a thorough review of genealogical records and consultations with all segments of the ruling house, including Jadiara, confirmed that the Fuji musician has no ancestral ties to the family. He added that the Olori-Ebi of the unit K1 referenced had not endorsed him.

Ogidan warned that admitting individuals without legitimate lineage would amount to introducing “fake people” into the royal bloodline. “History cannot be rewritten to include outsiders,” he stressed.

He further clarified that the official nomination process had already closed and that what K1 submitted was merely a family lineage form, not a valid nomination for the Awujale contest.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected to unveil the list of officially nominated princes and princesses on December 15, 2025, at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, in accordance with established succession procedures.

Kolawole Adesina’s struggle to have his late father’s will read by the Lagos State High Court has exposed a bitter family feud and allegations of fraud that threaten to unravel a longstanding legacy of wealth and trust.

The son of the late Prince Emmanuel Olanipekun Adesina, a former senior UBA manager, Kolawole embarked on a mission to recover his father’s missing investments, which he alleges were misappropriated by some family members during his father’s declining health and after his death in 2006. His quest to uncover the truth has nearly cost him his life and resulted in legal battles that further deepened the family rift.

Prince Adesina was married to the late Mrs. Frances Omorolaun Adesina, with whom he had two children: Kolawole and Adenike Oluwabunmi Adesina-Kupolati. With their children living abroad for decades, the couple took in a nephew, Franklin Erinle, who later became central to the controversy. As Prince Adesina’s health deteriorated and he went blind, Erinle reportedly managed many of his affairs. Kolawole later expressed suspicions that Erinle was involved in secretive dealings regarding the family estate while his father was incapacitated.

After the father’s death, the family estate was administered by Mrs. Adesina and the children under Letters of Administration issued by the High Court in 2009. Properties including buildings in Ikeja and Iwaya were divided among the family. However, Kolawole noted that for 15 years after his father’s passing, he was excluded from accessing his father’s belongings or clarifying matters with his mother, causing rising tensions.

The turning point came in January 2022 when Mrs. Adesina fell ill with kidney failure and dementia, prompting Kolawole to stay back in Nigeria and take care of her. Upon entering his late father’s locked room for the first time in 15 years, Kolawole discovered boxes and bags containing critical documents revealing widespread forgery, theft, and disappearance of family assets, including evidence suggesting his father had been impersonated to unlawfully sell properties.

Following Mrs. Adesina’s death in April 2022, Kolawole learned from the reading of her will that many assets previously under Letters of Administration reappeared in her will. More concerning was the fact that Franklin Erinle, who was never an administrator for the father’s estate, was named an administrator in the mother’s will, raising serious doubts about the estate’s management.

A major breakthrough came when a longtime family caregiver, Aminat Ibrahim Sherima, delivered a sealed letter from Prince Adesina dated 2002, indicating the existence of a last will and testament lodged at UBA Bank for safekeeping. Subsequent lawyer inquiries confirmed the bank was holding a formal will lodged since January 2006, contradicting prior claims that the late banker died intestate.

Questions now surround the role of Adedoyin Awosanya & Co, the family’s law firm that facilitated Letters of Administration for the estate while allegedly holding knowledge of the will that was never executed—adding to suspicions of estate mismanagement.

Kolawole’s pursuit of justice has come with significant personal cost. In February 2023, he was attacked with acid by unknown assailants following a peace meeting with Erinle. He has also faced charges of threat to life, malicious damage, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, resulting in a week’s detention at Kirikiri prisons before the court dismissed the cases for lack of diligent prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Probate Registrar’s attempts to read the original will have stalled amid legal objections from Adenike’s lawyers, Afe Babalola & Co, who argue the will is “highly suspicious” and subject to ongoing police investigations, even when the Will has not been opened till now.

Remarkably, Kolawole is not averse to contestation of Will, after unveiling, by any unsatisfied party, as the beneficiaries are basically himself and his only sister. The standoff continues to drag on, deepening the familial mistrust and complicating the resolution of Prince Adesina’s estate.

Hundreds of retirees in Ogun State on Monday staged a protest demanding the immediate suspension of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and the remittance of what they described as nearly 18 years of unremitted pension deductions.

The protesters took the peaceful protest to the office of the governor at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, displaying various placards.

The pensioners accused successive administrations of violating the laws guiding the scheme and abandoning workers who served the state for decades, arguing that the scheme introduced in 2008 with a mandatory 7.5 percent deduction each from employees and government, had failed from inception due to non-remittance by government.

They explained that although deductions were made consistently from workers’ salaries, the state allegedly failed to remit both the workers’ contributions and its own counterpart funding into their Retirement Savings Accounts, leaving many retirees with less than N3million after over 30 years of service.

The protesters expressed concern that their gratuities under the old Defined Benefit Scheme were also not paid into their accounts as required by law, accusing past administrations of shifting implementation timelines and ignoring statutory obligations.

They argued that the current administration had not remitted Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) deductions since assuming office, insisting that the scheme should not continue while arrears from 2008 to date remained unsettled.

The spokesperson of the protesters Daniel Adetunji Akanji, described the scheme as a killer policy, saying retirees had been pushed into hardship and emotional distress adding that many of them were unable to afford proper healthcare or fund the education of their children.

Akanji added that some retirees had died prematurely due to lack of financial support and appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to suspend the scheme for at least five years or cancel it entirely until all outstanding deductions and gratuities were cleared.

He alleged that labour unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiation Committee (JNC), failed to defend workers’ interests by remaining silent and signing agreements with the government without adequate consultation.

The spokesperson questioned why people who were exempted from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) or currently enjoying benefits under the Defined Benefit Scheme were appointed into committees saddled with overseeing the policy’s implementation.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Arinola Adetayo, responding to the protesters urged the retirees to remain calm, assuring them that the government had approved the process for remitting arrears and crediting their Retirement Savings Accounts.

She assured that payments would be made once affected retirees completed their documentation with the bureau, adding that those who had not submitted their files might experience delays.

The Permanent Secretary equally explained that after the current palliative payments, monthly pensions would begin to reflect from their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSA) accounts.

Adetayo assured that additional pension benefits would be provided and urged the retirees to do the needful by completing all required paperwork to enable smooth processing of their outstanding entitlements.

Meanwhile, despite the assurances, the retirees maintained their call for the suspension of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), insisting that the scheme, in its current form, does not safeguard their welfare or reflect the years they dedicated to public service.

President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Friday, attended the funeral service of the Executive Director and CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr Olusegun Awolowo.

Other dignitaries at the funeral of the grandson of the late sage and former Premier of the Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo, were former Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife, Toyin; former Governors James Ibori (Delta), Adeniyi Adebayo (Ekiti), and Gbenga Daniel (Ogun); current and former public office holders; and other eminent Nigerians.

The service was held at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, and was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Anglican Communion, Church of Nigeria, The Rt. Revd Ifedola Okupevi.

Speaking at the event attended by many Anglican bishops and priests, traditional and religious leaders, politicians, captains of industry, entrepreneurs, as well as family, friends and associates of the deceased, President Tinubu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, said the late Olusegun Awolowo served Nigeria with exceptional passion and unending dedication.

He said, “Segun served Nigeria with an exceptional passion and unending dedication. From his earliest days as a Special Assistant to the President, through his distinguished tenure as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, he pursued his objectives with discipline and purpose and achieved real success for our country.

“His latter service as Secretary of the National Committee for the African Continental Free Trade Area underscored his belief in a future for Nigeria and Africa built on trade, collaboration and shared prosperity. He was a family man, a kind and gentle man who spoke to people’s hearts just as well as he did to their minds.”

President Tinubu prayed that God will give the widow, children, friends and family of the deceased, particularly the mother, Hajia Abba Folawiyo, the grace to bear the loss and “to remember Segun as he was, a good man who lived well.”

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his glowing tributes to the deceased, said, “He worked with quiet dignity and unwavering conviction and had an uncommon devotion and dedication to the Nigerian dream. We gather to honour our father, brother, grandfather, friend and a true Nigerian.

“Mr Olusegun Omotunde Kofi Awolowo Jr, a son of legacy, a servant of our nation, a pillar of his generation and indeed a man of deep humility. Our friend and brother, Olusegun, was not just a public figure. He was a bridge between history and the future, between ideal and action, and between his illustrious lineage and the ordinary people that he truly cared for.

“We grew up knowing the real Awolowo family, of which our friend and brother stood tall. But if you also recall in that lineage, Segun Awolowo was not just outstanding; he was indeed a true icon coming from that name.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu sympathised with the late Olusegun Awolowo’s widow, Adebola, as well as the children, family members, friends and associates of the deceased, who died at the age of 62 years old on November 20.

In his sermon, the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, and Archdeacon of Ikoyi Archdeaconry, The Ven. Folorunso Agbelusi, described the late Olusegun Awolowo as a great man who sustained the Awolowo name without bringing shame to the family.
